Railings and enclosures are the icing on the cake when it comes to deck and patio design. You can choose from aluminum deck railings, cable deck railings, cedar deck and composite deck railings to add some personality to your patio or deck. Wooden deck enclosures make for a cozy feel. Or you could try custom enclosures to really leave your mark on your patio. But there are a few considerations you need to make when you are installing railings and enclosures. Cost is one of them, the more intricate the design the more expensive. Ease of installation, strength of the design and functionality are the other factors that you might want to consider before you get railings installed.
Your lifestyle influences your choice of railings more than you think. Railing design depends on your patio or deck size which in turn is influenced by the amount of time you spend on your deck and the number of people who spend time there. If you spend a lot time with friends on your porch, it is going to be a big deck and that will affect the railings you choose. Location of the deck and the material that you use are the other factors that affect the choice of railings and enclosures. Get your railing to match the overall architecture of your patio or deck.
I am looking to do a project on the side of my house. I live on a corner with no true backyard, just front and side yards. I am looking to tear out the existing fence that surrounds most of the property and have a chain link fence put up on a small portion of the side yard; less than 75 linear feet. Also off the side door I would like to have an 18 by 10/12 ft (approx) deck constructed with lattice for some privacy. Any info would be great. Thanks,
Brian K
I have a wood deck, structure beneath is fine, but I want to replace wood flooring and railings with Azek. The deck has two levels: main deck 12 x 14', lower deck 14 x 19 1/2'. Boards on main deck run horizontal, lower deck diagonal.
